What to Look for in a Multidisciplinary Clinic
A great clinic coordinates every part of your care under one roof. Here is what sets the best apart.
Read articleIntravenous iron replaces low iron stores quickly when tablets have not worked or cannot be tolerated. Treatment is clinician-directed and delivered by our nursing team in the infusion lounge, with blood work before and after so the dose is matched to what your body actually needs.

Medication is not included in the listed prices. Patients must provide their own iron medication for the infusion.
For our rehabilitation services, direct insurance billing may be available depending on your provider and plan. If direct billing is unavailable, we will provide the appropriate receipt to submit to your insurer.
Low iron is quietly exhausting: the afternoons that feel like wading, the stairs that steal your breath, the cold hands, the fog. When tablets have failed you - or your stomach has failed the tablets - an intravenous iron infusion can replace months of supplementation in as little as a single visit.
Hospitals provide iron infusions at no charge, but waits stretch from weeks to months. AuraWell exists for the people who cannot afford to feel this way until then. Appointments are typically available within days, in our calm infusion lounge on Highway 7.
IV iron is considered for iron deficiency and iron deficiency anemia when oral iron is not working, not tolerated or not fast enough - commonly in heavy menstrual bleeding, pregnancy and postpartum recovery, endurance athletes, digestive conditions that limit absorption, and after certain surgeries.
It begins with numbers, not assumptions: our Nurse Practitioner reviews your recent blood work - or orders what is missing - confirms that infusion is appropriate, and calculates the dose your body actually needs.
Your NP writes the prescription. Iron medication is excluded from the clinic fees and must be provided by the patient. Please obtain your prescribed medication from your pharmacy and bring it to your infusion appointment. You settle into a lounge chair, a registered nurse places a small IV, and modern formulations infuse over roughly an hour under continuous clinical supervision. Most people read, work or simply rest.
Weeks later we recheck your ferritin, because the goal is not an infusion - it is you, back at full brightness, with proof on paper.
Two costs exist and clinics rarely separate them, so we will. The iron medication itself is covered at or near full cost by most private drug plans, and never by OHIP outside hospital. The clinic's role - assessment, nursing administration, monitoring and follow-up - is the fee you pay here, and it is published plainly. For most insured patients, the real out-of-pocket is far smaller than they feared.
OHIP fully covers iron infusions only in hospital outpatient settings, where referral-based waits often run weeks to months. In private clinics, OHIP never covers the iron medication itself. Most private drug plans cover the medication at 80 to 100 percent; the clinic fee covers assessment, administration and monitoring.
No. Bring recent blood work if you have it - a ferritin and CBC are ideal - and our Nurse Practitioner can assess you and, when appropriate, prescribe and administer your infusion without any referral. If you have no recent labs, we can order them.
Modern formulations such as ferric derisomaltose often replace a full iron deficit in one to two visits, unlike older products that required a series. Your dose is calculated from your weight and your blood work.
IV iron is administered by a registered nurse with clinical oversight throughout, and current formulations have a well-established safety profile. The most common effects are mild - temporary headache, flushing or muscle aches. Serious reactions are rare, and we are equipped and trained for them.
Everyone differs, but many people notice energy improving over the following two to four weeks as iron stores rebuild and red blood cells replenish. We verify recovery with follow-up ferritin testing rather than guesswork.
The medicine is the same; the experience is not. Here you choose the appointment time within days, sit in a private lounge rather than a ward, and keep one clinical team from assessment through follow-up. The hospital route is free and appropriate when time is not pressing.
